  • Tension Tip

    Use the same thread in the spool as you use in the bobbin. Using two different kinds of threads can lead to tension problems.

  • Needle Tips:

    Use a brand new needle at least every 8 hours of sewing.
    Always wear eye protection while sewing. You never know when a needle can break and hit you in the eye!

  • Stain Remover for Bridal Gowns

    Did you accidentally poke your finger with a pin or needle and get blood on your wedding gown?
    This solution sounds weird and maybe gross, but it works! Saturate the tip of a Q-tip with your saliva and gently blot it on your satin wedding gown. The blood comes right out. Of course, you'll want to try it on a hidden area of the gown first just to be sure.

  • Bridal Tips

    I was a wedding coordinator for years, so I enjoy passing on tips to brides and their families. One of the things that most brides don't think of is to pin about 5 safety pins inside the dress for emergencies. A good spot to pin them would be along the side seam, within the seam allowance, just above the hem edge. That way, if anything breaks (like your zipper), or someone steps on your dress and tears it, or whatever, you've got them nice and handy.

    On the wedding day, have each bridesmaid (and bride) bring their items in a box with their name on it. After they are finished getting ready in the designated dressing room, they can put all their items back in their own box. That way, whoever is designated to clean up the dressing room, can just pack the boxes in their car without trying to figure out whose stuff is whose.
